Dental Bridges

Replace missing teeth and restore your smile

A bridge may be used to replace missing teeth, help maintain the shape of your face, and alleviate stress in your bite.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great, and literally bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Your bridge can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials and is bonded onto surrounding teeth for support.

Types of Bridges

The success of any bridge depends on a strong foundation built by the surrounding teeth, gums, and bone. It is important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong. Dr. Thietten will help you determine the best type of bridge based on the location of the missing tooth and your specific needs.

The Bridge Procedure

Placing a bridge typically requires two or more visits. During the first visit, the teeth on either side of the gap are prepared to support the bridge. Impressions are taken and sent to a lab where your custom bridge is fabricated. A temporary bridge is placed to protect the area. At a subsequent visit, your permanent bridge is adjusted for fit and comfort, then cemented into place.

Caring for Your Bridge

With proper oral hygiene and regular dental checkups, your bridge can last many years. Brushing, flossing (including under the bridge), and routine visits to Dr. Thietten will help ensure the longevity of your restoration.

For a permanent alternative, ask about dental implants.
